Tonight, Columbia Police officers have detained a male suspect following the suspect firing a shot at officers. No officers were injured.
At 7:58 p.m., officers attempted a traffic stop in the area of Quail and Nelwood Drive with a male driver on a moped. The driver proceeded to leave the moped and ran from officers on foot. Officers were in a foot pursuit with the subject when the subject fired a round at the officers. The officers did not fire any rounds at the subject. Boone County Sheriff's Department (BCSD) deputies and Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) troopers assisted with a search for the suspect. A K-9 track was conducted and a helicopter out of Jefferson City assisted with the search.
During the search, officers received information the suspect was occupying a residence in the 2400 block of Quail Drive. A perimeter was established and officers were able to safely remove the suspect from the residence.
There were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. The amount of property damage, if any, has not been determined at this time. The suspect was detained and transported to the Columbia Police Department for questioning. The scene was secure by 9:00 p.m. and all roads in the area reopened around 9:45 p.m. The investigation is on-going.
