INCIDENT DETAILS:
The crash occurred as vehicle 1, a 2007 Volvo tractor & trailer owned by Swift Trucking Corporation, traveled northbound on Highway 63 in the inside lane and lost traction of steer tires. The tractor and trailer began sliding towards the grass median, entered the median, and slid sideways uncontrollably in a northwestern direction towards the Highway 63 southbound lanes.
As the truck and trailer entered the southbound lanes of Highway 63, the trailer collided with vehicle 2, a 2005 Acura MDX SUV that was traveling south on Highway 63. The crash occurred within the roadway and came to a final rest blocking the outside lane. Vehicle 2 sustained heavy front end and right side damage. Driver 2 was extricated from the vehicle by Columbia Fire Department and transported to a local hospital for leg, arm, and facial injuries.
Highway 63 South was shut down for approximately one hour and 30 minutes and traffic was diverted to Route B. Missouri Department of Transportation assisted with clearing the scene of debris and fuel spill. The investigation is ongoing.
