As one section of Scott Boulevard closes, another one opens.
On Friday, April 22, Scott Boulevard will close from just south of the Vawter School Road roundabout to just north of Sawgrass Drive and Stone Grove Court. This section of Scott Boulevard is scheduled to be closed until late summer.
Meanwhile, the section of Scott Boulevard from Leighton Drive to State Route KK will open a week earlier than planned. Originally scheduled to open by May 1, it has been closed for construction since August 2015.
Some residents in the affected neighborhoods will have access to Vawter School Road via Silver Valley Drive, Blue Hollow Drive and Frontgate Drive. All others will need to go south to State Route KK, which links up to Old Mill Creek Road.
Scott Boulevard is an important north-south corridor which will eventually stretch from State Route E at the north end to State Route K on the south end. The improvements to the Scott Boulevard corridor are being completed in phases as funding becomes available.
With rapid and continued growth in the west and southwest areas of Columbia, planning for the development of Scott Boulevard has been underway for many years.
The Scott Boulevard Corridor project has completed Phase I and Phase II and is currently working on Phase III, which is also divided into three sections. The section of Scott Boulevard that is being completed on Friday is section 3a. The section that is closing on Friday is section 3b, with work on section 3c scheduled to begin later this summer.
In 2011, reconstruction and realignment of a portion of Scott Boulevard between West Broadway to just south of Gillespie Bridge Road, known as Phase I, was completed. Phase II, from Bellview Drive to Vawter School Road, was completed in the summer of 2015.
Scott Boulevard, from roughly State Route KK south to State Route K, was improved by a private developer through an annexation and development agreement in 2013.
