Boys and girls are invited to participate in the free, local Major League Baseball Pitch, Hit & Run competition. It is being organized by Columbia Parks and Recreation and will be held at the Red Field at Cosmo Park's Rainbow Softball Center, 1507 Business Loop 70 West, on April 23.
Registration and warm-up begins at 9:30 a.m. and the event will start at 10 a.m. It's free and open to youth ages 7-14. Age is determined as of July 18, 2016. Girls will participate in the same skills categories, but with a softball. Skills include pitching for accuracy at a target, hitting for distance and accuracy from a tee, and running bases for time.
Pitch, Hit and Run is the official skills competition of Major League Baseball. Winners will advance to the sectional competition in Jefferson City. Sectional winners will earn the opportunity to be selected to participate in the team championships at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The final level of competition concludes at the 2016 MLB All-Star Game in San Diego.
Registration forms are available at Columbia Parks and Recreation, 1 South Seventh St., Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash St. or online at www.gocolumbiamo.com. Pre-registration is preferred by April 21, but walk-ups are welcome. Copy of birth certificate or baptismal record is required.
