On Friday, October 23, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., City of Columbia employees will conduct this years second "Operation Clean Street" along Blue Ridge Rd between Rangeline St and Brown Station Rd.
Operation Clean Street activities will include trash/litter pickup, branch and bush trimming, sidewalk and street cleaning, street sign evaluation and replacement (as needed), street and intersection striping and marking, fire hydrant painting and other activities (as needed).
Over 40 city employees, many normally at office and desk jobs, will join forces with Street Division personnel to perform the work on this roughly two-mile stretch of roadway. The goal is to make the street look fresh and inviting, show that city employees care about the community where they serve and work and to encourage residents to take pride in their neighborhoods by working to control litter and reporting issues that need attention.
Media are welcome to take photographs, video and conduct interviews during the operation.
Motorists are encouraged to slow down and proceed with caution in the work zone and watch for city employees close to and, at times, in the street. All workers will be in high-visibility vests and traffic control in some areas will be in effect.
With rain in the forecast, the event may be rescheduled with short notice.
