On weekdays where weather permits, Columbia Public Works crews will be placing new lane markings down on a number of Columbia roads which were resurfaced during the late summer. Crews will begin work on Monday, September 28 in north Columbia and work south.
Motorist are asked to remain 500 feet behind the paint vehicles and to please not cross over freshly painted lane markings for about 5 minutes. This will help ensure paint does not transfer to your tires and vehicle and will help keep the new lane markings from being damaged. Minor delays are possible for motorist who encounter painting crews.
The City of Columbia uses pavement paint and application methods which meet or exceed national standards. When the paint is applied, glass retro-reflective beads are infused into the paint. The glass beads help reflect light from vehicle headlights to help motorist see markings in low light and dark conditions.
