At 2:17 PM on Saturday, August 29, the Tower at Columbia Regional Airport reported to Airport Public Safety that a Mooney single engine aircraft with one (1) occupant on-board, suffered a collapsed nose gear upon landing on the main runway, Runway 2-20.
Airport Public Safety responded and found the pilot of the aircraft outside of the plane examining the aircraft. The pilot was not injured, there was no fire; the aircraft suffered damage to the nose section of the plane.
Columbia Regional Airport is closed until the aircraft is removed from the runway. That is expected to occur very shortly. The closure of the main runway has delayed American Airlines flight 3166 to Dallas which was scheduled to depart at 2:26 PM.
It is hoped that COU will reopen before American Airlines flight 3420 from Chicago arrives at 3:36 PM.
