A new Unisex/Family restroom has been completed and opened at Columbia Regional Airport. The new restroom is located in the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) secured passenger boarding waiting area.
The restroom is fully ADA compliant and has a changing table for infants. A restroom in the secured passenger boarding area has long been on COU passengers wish list. Now, once passengers are screened, they will have access to a restroom and drinking fountains. In addition, the restroom will provide better compliance with FAA Tarmac Contingency rules. Should an aircraft be diverted to COU for a period of time due to weather or other factors at the destination airport, passengers can now be deplaned in a TSA secure area which has access to restrooms and drinking fountains. This means the aircraft and passengers would not have to be re-screened by TSA.
The cost of the drinking fountains and restroom, inlcuding materials and labor was $34,800. The cost included a grinder pump and associated equipment required for the sanitary sewer connections in the restroom. Funding was provided through the Passenger Terminal Upgrade project.
