Each year, the Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services partners with the city's Parks and Recreation Department to reduce the number of mosquitoes along trails in Columbia. This year's mosquito spraying program kicks off Thursday, June 11th.
Residents living along the city's trail system can expect to see a small, red Chevrolet truck driving along the trails on Friday mornings from approximately 11 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. from now through early fall. Spraying is most effective when done in the hours prior to sunrise and after dusk when temperatures are lower and most mosquitoes are active.
For more information on the city's mosquito control program, please contact Public Health and Human Services' Environmental Health division at 573-874-7346.
