Corrected: College Avenue Safety Enhance Project

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Correction: lane closures on College Avenue will affect the outside lanes of traffic in the work zone during this phase of the project, and the inside lanes will remain open. A previous press release reported closures on the inside lanes.

Construction is set to begin on the College Avenue Safety Enhancement project on Monday, June 1 at 7:00 am. The project is scheduled to be substantially completed by Friday, August 21.

During construction, the outside north bound and south bound lanes will be closed. This will result in one lane traffic both north and south bound. In addition, there will be no pedestrian crossing allowed within the construction zone. Pedestrians should cross College at University or Rollins. There will be some sidewalk closures on both the east and west side of College Ave in the project areas from time to time.

Left turns from College Ave onto Rosemary and Wilson, or from Rosemary and Wilson onto College Ave will no longer be permitted.

The project consists of constructing a median in the current center left turn lane on College Ave between University Ave and Rollins St. There will be two signalized pedestrian crossing points added between University Ave and Rollins St.

Detailed information on the project can be found at MakeTheCaseProject.com

Aplex Inc. from Linn, MO was the successful bidder, submitting a bid of $690,000. The funding for the project comes from a $750,000 MoDOT grant, and matching funds from the City of Columbia and the University of Missouri, each contributing $35,000. Total project cost, including engineering and design, is estimated at $824,000.

Motorist and non-motorized transportation users should use caution in the work zone, expect lane restrictions and minor delays, and use alternate routes if possible.
