In an effort to increase safety with online purchases, the Columbia Police Department is opening their lobby as an Online Exchange Zone effective immediately.
The opening of the Online Exchange Zone is not a reaction to any recent crimes in Columbia with online purchases, but in response to the growing use of online sale sites including Craigslist, Facebook groups, etc. Citizens are now able to arrange to make their online transactions in the security of the CPD lobby which provides access 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and has video surveillance. Weapons and/or weapon transactions will not be permitted in the Online Exchange Zone.
The Columbia Police Department would also like to remind online shoppers to be conscientious when looking to purchase items and avoid buying stolen goods. If you or anyone you know may have had items recently stolen, CPD encourages you to review online sale sites in efforts of potentially identifying and locating your stolen items.
