Scott Blvd Reopening Time - What Motorist and Non-motorized Transportion User Should Know

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Public Works announces Scott Blvd, between Bellview Dr and Vawter School Rd, will open to two-way traffic, as promised, on Friday, August 8 at or shortly before 8:00 PM. Motorist should not plan on using Scott Blvd for the morning or evening commute on Friday.

The contractor is working hard to complete several items this week, one of which is a race to compete with the forecast of rain on Wednesday night and Thursday.

Over 5 months, a monumental amount of work has been completed:

  • Demolishing and rebuilding the 360 foot long bridge over Hinkson Creek
  • Constructing a new round-about and segment of Brushwood Lake Rd
  • Importing over 105,000 cubic yards of fill material
  • Raising Scott Blvd by 9 feet and building a new roadbed consisting of 12,764 square yards of pavement
  • Installing 2,700 feet of stormwater drainage pipe
  • Installing a new stormwater detention and treatment basin
  • Constructing a new MKT trail underpass
  • Adding over 32,000 square feet of sidewalk

While the road will re-open to two-way traffic Friday evening, motorist and non-motorized transportation users will still need to use caution and patience as the project will not be complete.

Here are somethings motorist, non-motorized transportation users, and park/trail users should be aware of:

  • The contractor will still be working on and along the roadway.
  • Motorist should slow down, watch for workers, and be prepared for short term delays from time to time.
  • Pedestrians should also use caution as some sidewalks and pedways may be closed for short periods of time while workers continue to finish project items.
  • Park and Trail users should note that the parking lot to Jay Dix Station will open when Scott Blvd reopens to two-way traffic on Friday evening. The east parking lot and access to the MKT trail will remain closed until further notice.
  • A segment of Vawter School Rd will need to be closed for a short period of time in the future to complete work just east of the round-about. A closing and opening date will be announced in the future. During the short term closure, Scott Blvd will remain open to two-way traffic.

The entire project is scheduled to be complete by October 31, 2014.

Columbia Public Works thanks our customers for their patience, their understanding, and their time while we completed the task of building a new Scott Blvd. We know it caused hardships for some; but the wait is over and we hope you enjoy the new and improved segment of Scott Blvd. We also hope you'll continue to follow the completion of this phase of the project by visiting the project website at ScottBv.com
