COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATING BURGLARY/SEXUAL OFFENSES TARGETING COLLEGE AGE FEMALES
The following is a list of recent incidents investigators believe may be related, along with a short synopsis. The Police Department is asking any victims or witnesses who may have additional information or involvement in similar incidents that have not been reported to please contact law enforcement.
5/1/14 2014-004838 6:15 A.M., 3100 E. Stadium Boulevard. Victim (VM) was up and in the kitchen of the residence when she noticed the front doorknob turning slowly. The door to the apartment was locked and the Suspect (SP) did not enter the residence.
5/1/14 2014-004853 6:15 A.M., 3100 E. Stadium Boulevard. VM woke up to the SP in her bedroom. The front door of the apartment was left unlocked. SP turned around and calmly walked out of the room and out of the apartment in an unknown direction of travel. SP didn't assault her and didn't steal anything from the apartment.
5/1/14 2014-004839 7:00 A.M., 3100 E. Stadium Boulevard. VM woke up to find SP in her bedroom and SP had a knife. SP entered the residence through an unlocked front door. SP told VM to take off all of her clothes and SP masturbated while in the bedroom. SP never attempted to assault her nor sexually assault her. SP was in the residence a total of five minutes.
5/4/14 2014-004967 7:12 A.M., 4100 block of Lenoir. VM walking along the 4100 block of Lenoir when the SP came up behind her, held a knife to her throat and attempted to sexually assault her. VM fought back and the suspect fled the scene on foot.
5/8/14 2014-005142 after midnight to 3:30 A.M., 2200 block of Grindstone Parkway. VM woke up because someone was trying her bedroom door handle which was locked. VM went out of her bedroom and found the downstairs window open. Nothing was found missing from apartment.
5/9/14 2014-005182 6:26 A.M., 3100 E. Stadium Boulevard SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke to find SP in her bedroom armed with a knife. The SP sexually assaulted the VM and then fled the residence.
SUSPECT DESCRIPTION
The suspect is being described as a white, or possibly "Middle-Eastern"male, in his 30's, 6'00" to 6'02", with an athletic build. The suspect has been seen at times wearing glasses. The suspect's clothing description has varied throughout the reports.
These crimes are similar in nature to the crimes that occurred on East Campus/Downtown in 2013. The suspect description in these cases are similar to the most recent cases outlined above.
06/29/13 2013-007229 12:32 a.m. 1318 Anthony Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM sleeping and awoke when SP made noise. VM screamed and suspect fled.
07/21/13 2013-008314 3:35 a.m. 1221 E. Walnut Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke when SP touched her. SP appeared to have his pants down and fled when VM spoke to him.
07/26/13 2013-008547 1:30 a.m.-4:00 a.m. 1221 E. Walnut Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke when SP touched her. When she awoke VM realized SP was lying in her bed nude. VM yelled at SP and he fled.
08/22/13 2013-009768 3:11 a.m. 1221 E. Walnut Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke when she felt someone in her bed. VM saw SP in bed with no shirt. VM yelled at SP and he fled.
10/20/13 2013-012506 1:50 a.m. 1406 Anthony Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke to find SP standing by her bed. SP jumped on bed and told VM not to say anything. When VM screamed SP struck her several times in the chest with his fists and then fled.
10/26/13 2013-012760 4:45 a.m. 1118 Locust Street
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke to find SP removing her clothes. SP threatened VM with a sharp object and told her he would kill her. The SP sexually assaulted the VM and then fled.
10/28/13 2013-012844 6:00 a.m. 1422 University Avenue
SP entered through unlocked door. VM awoke when SP entered her bedroom. VM began screaming and SP fled.
11/3/2013 2013-013113 2:45 a.m. 1406 Anthony Street
SP entered through unlocked door, or possibly used a key. VM awoke when she felt the SP crawling into bed on top of her. When VM screamed the SP fled.
11/17/2013 2013-013714 5:50 A.M., 602 South William Street.
VM awoke when SP touched her. VM kicked the SP and screamed. SP then fled.
CPD REMINDS EVERYONE:
1.) Lock doors and windows especially at night
2.) Report ANY suspicious activity immediately to police
3.) Walk in well-lit areas on primary paths
4.) Walk in pairs when possible
5.) Remain alert to your surroundings (Stay off of cellphones when walking or running and avoid wearing headphones)
