Free Ride Day for all Columbia Transit City Buses March 20th

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

With March 29th's Earth Hour quickly approaching this year, one of the easiest ways for Columbia residents to become a little more earth-friendly in a jiffy is by riding public transportation. Columbia Transit is making that easier than ever right now as all city buses will be completely free to riders today as part of the city's Earth Hour kick-off celebration. The Free Ride Day applies to all city buses and Para-Transit services, all day Thursday March 20th, including the downtown FastCAT and the Black and Gold student routes.

"This is a great opportunity for residents to get out and try our local public transportation to get to work or to run an errand. We all know it takes a little effort to live earth-friendly, but a great first step is to check out bus routes in your area and see if you could work it into your schedule for appointments or lunch breaks," says Teresa White, Marketing Specialist for Public Works.

Customers will also get to enjoy free rides next weekend on Saturday March 29th, which is the day Earth Hour is officially held. Columbia Transit urges customers to also participate in the world-wide Earth Hour event from 8:30-9:30pm on March 29th by turning off all lights and non-essential electronics for one hour and see how much of an impact Columbia can have if we all work together.
