Street maintenance crews will be out the week of October 7th and possibly the week of October 14 striping lanes on many Columbia roadways. Motorist are asked to use caution, allow plenty of room between their vehicle and the striping equipment, and to not drive over fresh paint if at all possible.
Crews will finish by hand the crosswalks and stop bars at a later date.
Columbia Public Works uses industry standard traffic paints and during the application, glass beads are injected into the paint to provide a retro-reflective marking. Retro-reflective means that headlights will reflect the light back towards the vehicle operator for better visibility in low light and dark conditions.
Reflective paint scatters the light in many different directions and hence in low light and darkness the visibility of reflective paint does not match the intensity of retro-reflective paint.
We apprecaite motorist patience while we work to improve Columbia's roadways.
