***SAFETY CHECKPOINT***
Suspended, revoked, unlicensed and uninsured drivers operating motor vehicles on the public roadways in the City of Columbia continue to be a problem. In addition, drivers and passengers not wearing seatbelts continue to contribute to traffic crash injuries. In an effort to address these issues, the Columbia Police Department Traffic Unit will conduct a Safety Checkpoint in Columbia, MO, between September 22 and September 28, 2013. The Safety Checkpoint will be conducted during daylight hours. The checkpoint location is not random and has been chosen based on the crash data within close proximity to the safety checkpoint location.
Motorists encountering the Safety Checkpoint will be asked to present their driver's license and proof of financial responsibility (motor vehicle insurance). Law-abiding motorists encountering the checkpoint should expect minimal delay. The Columbia Police Department wishes to thank motorists of Columbia in advance for their patience and cooperation during this operation. The Columbia Police Department would like to remind everyone to wear their seatbelt.
This event is funded by a grant from the Missouri Department of Transportation Division of Highway Safety.
