The City of Columbia's municipal golf courses, Lake of the Woods and L.A. Nickell, will be closed to the public August 3-4 for the Missouri State Elks Tournament.
The tournament was originally scheduled to be played at Lake of the Woods and Columbia Country Club. However, due to construction delays at the Country Club, the course was not ready for play. Parks and Recreation staff chose to offer both city courses for play.
Typically, the city courses are not closed at the same time. However, both were needed to accommodate a tournament of this size, and to ensure that the tournament stayed in the City of Columbia. The Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce have played a role in bringing the tournament to Columbia. Almost 500 families will be staying in Columbia for the tournament this weekend, bringing significant revenue to the City. This positive economic impact was a factor in Parks and Recreation's staff decision to offer both city courses for use.
Parks and Recreation regrets any inconvenience the closure of both courses may cause the public. For more information, call 874-7460.
