Learn the ABC's of On-Road Cycling!

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Do you know all you need to know to safely ride a bicycle? Do you feel you know enough to teach your children how to ride cautiously and conspicuously while on their own? Learn basic safety skills for riding with traffic, helpful tips (clothing, maintenance and suggested routes) and state laws pertaining to cyclists.

GetAbout Columbia, in partnership with Columbia Parks and Recreation, is offering a free, 3-hour on-road cycling clinic from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 at the Armory Sports Center (701 East Ash). ABC's of On-Road Cycling is one of many activities taking place during the 12th Annual Mayor's Challenge; Bike, Walk and Wheel Week, May 11 - 18.

Program format will include classroom discussion and parking lot demonstrations.  All participants will receive a bike tail light and will be entered to win a free two hour personalized bike instruction session.  The class will be taught by League of American Bicyclist Certified Instructors and is open to all ages.

Register by calling Parks and Recreation at 874-7460. A detailed schedule of all Bike, Walk, and Wheel Week events is located online at www.gocolumbiamo.com/parksandrec/.

Funding for GetAbout Columbia is provided by the Federal Highway Administration's Non-Motorized Transportation Program.
