Public Works- quick late evening update

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Crews are now making progress on 1st priority routes and will also work on 2nd priority routes tonight. We have rented a second road grader to assist with making the 1st and 2nd priority routes safe and passable. A full crew is in tonight and will be relieved by a full crew at 7:00 am on Friday morning.

Now that most precipitation has stopped and traffic is off the roads, our crews are able to make more progress.

Our forecasters are saying that freezing drizzle could persist through 6:00 am on Friday. So, even plowed and treated routes will likely be slick tomorrow morning during commute.

We appreciate our customer patience while we work to make Columbia's streets safe and passable after this large scale winter storm. Many of our plow crews assisted untold numbers of motorist today by helping get stalled vehicles moving again.

As of this evening, we plan to begin normal refuse and recycling routes on Friday morning and will announce how we plan to pick up refuse and recycling the weather prevented us from picking up today. Our refuse collectors worked very hard in severe weather conditions.

The late evening flight from DFW to COU was cancelled as expected meaning the Friday morning 6:45 am flight, flight number AA3215 from COU to DFW is also cancelled.
