As the pending winter storm approaches, Columbia Public Works completes preparations to respond to the event.
Throughout the day crews ensured that equipment was ready to begin treating and plowing operations at the onset of the snowfall. In addition, our managers have been talking with our forecasters and monitoring the changes concerning the timing of the event.
At this time -
- Preparation and maintenance of equipment used to treat and plow the roadways was completed around 3:00 PM.
- The onset of the snow and sleet has been pushed back to between 9 and 11 am on Thursday.
- We will monitor and respond to any changes to the forecasted storm overnight.
Thursday morning -
- A full crew will report at 7:00 am on Thursday and pre-treat 1st and 2nd priority roads with salt.
- As precipitation begins and continues, crews will treat and plow 1st and 2nd priority routes until they are safe and passable using overtime if needed.
We urge our customers to continue to monitor the forecast for future changes to the start time of winter precipitation. As the start time of teh precipitation has now been pushed back past the morning commute, we urge you to also monitor weather and road conditions during the day Thursday as snow and or sleet is expected to be falling during the evening commute.
Use caution, slow down, and buckle up when driving on snow and ice. We will continue to post changes and updates via press releases and on Facebook and Twitter.
