The Public Communications function was established in 1993 to serve as a communications link between the City of Columbia’s municipal government and the citizens.  In 2015, the name was changed to the Community Relations Department to reflect the expanded functions of the Department.

The Community Relations Department provides services that help citizens connect with City government including: publications; the City Channel; and neighborhood relations. The department’s mission is to provide accurate, timely and reliable information for all citizens.
