About the artist
Hawkins, a native Missourian, was raised in Columbia. He studied painting and drawing at Columbia College with Sid Larson, himself a student of noted artist Thomas Hart Benton. He attended the University of Missouri in Columbia, obtaining his Master of Fine Arts degree. There he worked with noted artist and cartoonist Frank Stack. Hawkins also attended the prestigious Skowhegan School in Maine.
His work is found in many private collections as well as the State Historical Society of Missouri’s collection. After growing disinterested in painting, he took up photography and is now an avid shooter of all things Missouri including people, places, events and landscapes.
