About the artist

A native Missourian, Kelly Coalier received his B.F.A. in painting and drawing from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville in 1996 and a B.A. from the University of Missouri at St. Louis in 1993. After traveling around the U.S. photographing and drawing roadside Americana he returned to Missouri continuing by documenting mid-Missouri signs, motels and street corners.  His use of bright colors, animated style and small town themes reflect his love of cartoons, comics, and American popular culture.

Coalier has had solo exhibitions at Lost Vegas Gallery, Las Vegas, Nevada; Messing Gallery, St. Louis Missouri; Three Sinks Gallery St. Louis, Missouri and Tellers Gallery, Columbia, Missouri among others. He has served as an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri, St. Louis.
