Creating Community through People, Parks and Programs
CoMo Bike Co-op Mission Statement:
Increase transportation independence though bicycle ridership
Armory Sports and Recreation Center
701 E Ash St.
The CoMo Bike Co-op is a program and classroom facility located in the Armory Sports Center. Columbia Parks and Recreation, in partnership with GetAbout Columbia, will manage year-round programming. Opening day for the co-op is Sunday, January 7, 2018. Initially, the bike co-op will be open limited hours with future plans to expand services and hours.
The community donates bicycles. Earn-a-Bike participants and volunteers refurbish the bicycles in exchange for ownership or use by underserved community members.
(for youth ages 13-18)
Earn-a-Bike is a free learning and earning bicycle program with the goal of fostering independence in and provision of basic employment and bike mechanic skills. Participants are required to attend a series of hands-on sessions (a total of 20 hours) where they will learn bike maintenance skills in a professional environment. Program leaders will also teach students how to safely ride and navigate streets and trails. Group learning will include opportunities for community service projects, such as trail/bike lane maintenance and assistance with mobile "pop-up" bike shops. Upon successful completion of all sessions, participants will receive a refurbished bicycle, helmet, light and a lock. Program details, dates and location are included on application.
