Columbia Parks and Recreation
Creating Community through People, Parks and Programs
Special Olympics is an international organization which provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people 8 years and older with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.
Columbia Parks & Recreation will accept any person who has an intellectual disability or experiences cognitive delays and has significant learning or vocational problems. Each participant must have a physical and signed release on file. The forms can be obtained by calling 874-7312 or by emailing Jessica.Sida@CoMo.gov.
Special Olympics continues to grow thanks to the dedication, commitment and efforts of the more than 500,000 volunteers world-wide. You can volunteer in a variety of ways: coaching, assisting with fundraising, organizing events and more.
