CITY COUNCIL MEETING - COLUMBIA, MISSOURI
APRIL 10, 2000

INTRODUCTORY
    The City Council of the City of Columbia, Missouri met for a special session at 7:00 p.m., on Monday, April 10, 2000, in the Council Chamber of the City of Columbia, Missouri. The roll was taken with the following results: Council Members JOHN, COFFMAN, HINDMAN, CRAYTON, JANKU, CROCKETT, and CAMPBELL were present. The City Manager, City Counselor, City Clerk, and various Department heads were also present.
 

NEW BUSINESS
R62-00     Declaring results of the April 4, 2000 election.
    The resolution was read by the Clerk.
    Comments were called for with none received.
    The vote on R62-00 was recorded as follows: VOTING YES: JOHN, COFFMAN, HINDMAN, CRAYTON, JANKU, CROCKETT, CAMPBELL. VOTING NO: NO ONE. Resolution declared adopted, reading as follows:
 

(A)     Oath of Office - Council Members Janku and Coffman.
    The City Clerk administered the Oath of Office to both Council Member Janku and Council Member Coffman. Mayor Hindman presented Mr. Janku and Mr. Coffman with their framed Commissions of Office.
 

(B)     Comments by Council Member Janku.
    Mr. Janku thanked the voters of the second ward for their expression of support and for allowing him the honor and privilege of representing them. He was hopeful to remain an effective advocate for their interests and also for the interests of the entire city. Mr. Janku recognized his wife, Anne, and thanked her for her continued support.
 

(C)     Comments by Council Member Coffman.
    Mr. Coffman was grateful for the opportunity to reacquaint himself with the residents and the diverse nature of the sixth ward during his campaign. He commented that it has been a pleasure to serve on the City Council for the past three years and he has a great deal of respect for his fellow Council members. Mr. Coffman is looking forward to further promoting the public interest beyond the scope of any particular party. He recognized and thanked several people present that were a real source of encouragement and assisted him in his campaign efforts. He introduced and thanked his wife, Kathryn, and his daughter, Mavis.
 

(D)     Election of Mayor Pro-tem.
    Mayor Hindman made the motion that Mr. Campbell be elected Mayor pro-tem. The motion was seconded by Mr. Janku and approved unanimously by voice vote.
 

(E)     Appointment of Council Committees by Mayor.
    Mayor Hindman made the following appointments:

    Mr. Beck recognized his wife, Dee, and the staff also present in the audience. He said the staff is very appreciative of the hard work the Council performs in making the City what it is today.
    Mayor Hindman commented that the Council enjoys working with the City Manager and staff. He said the staff is top-notch and added that they carry out Council policies very well.
    Mayor Hindman invited everyone to attend a reception in the mezzanine conference room following the meeting.
    There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
