The Columbia Public Works Department has launched a Facebook page and Twitter account to improve our communications with our customers. The Facebook page can be viewed at www.Facebook.com/ColumbiaMissouriPublicWorks and the Twitter feed handle is @pub_works .
"We want to be transparent to our customers. The more ways we have to communicate, the easier that will be", said Public Works Director John Glascock. "In addition to Facebook and Twitter, we will continue to improve our web sites and explore and utilize new and traditional ways in which we talk to people."
Columbia Public Works has been tweeting and posting to the Facebook page for about thirty days now as a soft launch to ensure that the quality of our sites meets our internal expectations. With winter around the corner and the threat of potential snowfall, both the Facebook site and Twitter feed will be used heavily as a means to communicate timely, accurate and official information to our customers concerning the status of Columbia Public Works snow plowing operations and roadway conditions.
"We're really happy to dive into these social media sites and use them as another tool in our communications toolbox to reach out to our customers", said Steven Sapp, Public Information Specialist for Columbia Public Works. "We hope our customers will use these sites and provide us with feedback so we can improve them to meet their needs."
Several Columbia Public Works divisions including Solid Waste, Columbia Regional Airport, Columbia Transit, and the Storm Water Utility have been and will continue to use Facebook sites to communicate information specific to their operations. The new site which is the umbrella for everything Public Works will repost and re-tweet information from those divisions as needed.
