Shooting in the 5500 block of Volunteer Drive

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

One person is in serious condition at a local hospital this morning after being shot in an east Columbia home. Officers have detained a possible suspect.

Columbia Police officers responded to the 5500 block of Volunteer Drive at 5:15 a.m. today for reports of shots fired. Information provided to Boone County Joint Communications indicated one person had been shot.

Upon officers' arrival, they located a male victim, 29, with a gunshot wound inside a residence. The victim was transported by Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Officers have detained one possible suspect at this time. The possible suspect has been transported to the Columbia Police Department for interview by a detective with the Criminal Investigations Division. The Forensic Evidence Team was called in to assist with processing the scene and collecting evidence. The investigation is on-going.
