Winter trout fishing program open

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia Parks and Recreation has opened the annual winter trout fishing program at Cosmo-Bethel Park, 4500 Bethel St.

The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) recently stocked the lake at Cosmo-Bethel with about 2,400 trout for the program, with the goal of increasing fishing opportunities and species diversity in urban lakes.

All trout must be released, unharmed from Nov. 1-Jan. 31. Only artificial baits (no natural or scented baits) can be used during that time. After Jan. 31, anglers can harvest trout under statewide regulations. A valid Missouri fishing permit is required.

The winter trout program is administered in partnership with MDC and the Mid-Missouri Chapter of Trout Unlimited.
