On 10/22/17 at 8:34 p.m., officers arrested James Leroy Bailey Jr., age 50, from Columbia, in the area of 1200 Larch Court for Arson in the First Degree.
Columbia Police officers were originally dispatched at 7:35 p.m. for a threat in the 1200 block of Larch Court. The female victim reported James Bailey was intoxicated, threatened to kill her, and threatened to burn down her residence. At 8:07 p.m., the victim contacted Joint Communications again saying that she had received another threat from Bailey and that he set her porch on fire. The Columbia Fire Department was dispatched along with officers. The Columbia Fire Department arrived on scene and extinguished the fire at the exterior south door.
Officers arrived on scene and located James Bailey nearby. Officers observed a pile of burnt clothing, paperwork, and trash on the concrete patio near the south door where the fire was started. Officers located two burnt propane bottles near the residence. The Columbia Fire Department determined the fire was intentionally set and the fire caused approximately $1,000 in damages.
