Family Fun Fests will continue on Aug. 16 with a new theme for 2017, Mad About Science. The free event will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Cosmo Park, 1615 Business Loop 70 West, near Steinberg Playground.
In honor of the solar eclipse on Aug. 21, this month's Family Fun Fest will delve into the scientific world with a Mad Science show, starting at 6:30 p.m. Kids will learn about chemical reactions, air pressure and states of matter through foggy dry ice storms, giant beach balls floating in the air and a mad science "burp potion."
Columbia Parks and Recreation's Fun Fests feature a new theme each month and offer free entertainment for the entire family such as music, special performances, art activities, bounce-houses, hands-on activities, balloon-animals, face painting and fun for all ages. Kids also have the chance to see a City firetruck and Daniel Boone Regional Library's Bookmobile.
Food trucks at the park will be the Big Cheeze, Kona Ice, Central Dairy and Streetdogs Hot Dog Cart.
Family Fun Fests are sponsored by Tigers Community Credit Union, ParentLink, Columbia Convention and Visitors Bureau, KPLA 101.5, and KOMU 8.
