Several local residents have received an email from a phony City Traffic Collections Department ([email protected]create new email) stating that the recipient has a past due parking ticket and demanding payment of a delinquent parking fine. The fraudulent email falsely states the recipient can pay by credit card online or by calling an automated system.
The City of Columbia Parking Utility never demands a payment of any kind via email. The City of Columbia Parking Utility does not have a Collections Department. All parking tickets are handled through the Municipal Court. Complete details on how to contest or pay a ticket are available at www.CoMo.gov/court/parking-tickets.
Anyone receiving this scam email should report the incident to the Columbia Police Department by calling 3-1-1.
