The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced Monday, July 24 that pavement maintenance is scheduled for the Armory parking lot and Ninth and Ash parking lot July 31-Aug. 6, weather permitting. Capital Paving will perform mill and overlay on the lots beginning at 1 a.m. on Monday, July 31 and is scheduled to finish by 6 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 6.
All vehicles will need to be vacated from the lots before work begins on Monday morning or risk being ticketed and towed at the vehicle owner's expense. Signs will be posted and flyers placed on vehicles to remind parkers to move their vehicles and point to alternative parking areas.
Alternative parking areas are being provided for permit holders. Anyone holding a permit for these lots will be permitted to park at any green on-street 10-hour meter while lots are closed. Permit holders may also choose to park in any hourly spaces in the Fifth and Walnut and Short Street parking garages. As long as permit holders display their parking permit as usual, no payment will be required. However, these spaces will remain open to regular customers as well so spaces are available on a first-come, first-served basis to permit holders.
"We appreciate the patience and cooperation of everyone who holds a permit to these parking lots," Parking Utility Supervisor Tanner Morrell said. "We have provided alternative parking but we understand this is still a short-term inconvenience."
