Columbia Police officers were dispatched to 2709 East Broadway, Break Time Convenience Store, at 3:00 a.m. today in reference to a panic alarm. The complainant reported a female victim with a gunshot wound had entered the business.
Upon officers' arrival to the area they located a male gunshot wound victim on Trimble Road near a vehicle that had been struck by gunfire. A search of the area also located another male gunshot wound victim for a total of three shooting victims. All three victims were transported by Emergency Medical Service to a local hospital. Shortly thereafter the male victim that had been located in the street was pronounced dead by medical personnel. The extent of the injuries to the other two victims is unknown at the time of this release.
The preliminary investigation has revealed the victims were occupying a vehicle that was traveling in the area of Trimble Road and Brickton Road. It appears the suspect(s) vehicle approached the victims' vehicle and began firing rounds. Officers located several shell casings in the area. Officers were still searching the area to determine if any structures (other than the victims' vehicle) were struck by the gunfire. At this time, no other property damage has been located.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division are actively working this investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect(s) involved. Being a homicide investigation, the scene may be held for several hours, so citizens are encouraged to avoid the area if possible. The entire intersection of Trimble Road and Brickton Road is inaccessible at the time of this release.
If you have any information regarding this triple shooting/homicide, please contact the Columbia Police Department at (573) 874-7652, or call CrimeStoppers at (573) 875-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.
