Beginning Monday, July 17 at 8 a.m., Grove Construction is scheduled to begin work affecting the travel lanes and sidewalks on Stewart Road, just west of Providence Road. The sidewalk on the north side of Stewart Road and a portion of the Stewart Road traffic lane will be closed. Both travel lanes will remain open, however there will be lane shifts, and the eastbound left turn lane at Providence will be closed to allow adequate taper to the work zone. (No restriction on left turns is proposed.) The work associated with the closure is scheduled to be completed by Friday, Aug. 11, at 5 p.m., weather permitting.
The work will include removal and replacement of an existing retaining wall along Stewart Road, a driveway approach and reconstruction and widening of the sidewalk on the north side of Stewart Road. This work is associated with the Lambda Chi Alpha improvement project, 111 E. Stewart Road.
Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to exercise extreme caution when near the work zone and use an alternate route if possible.
Grove Construction has a work permit approved by the City of Columbia.
