Fatal Crash Involving a Pedestrian

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Type of incident: Fatality crash involving a pedestrian

Date & Time of Crash: 7/10/17 @ 11:47 a.m.

Location of crash:  3300 block of Oakland Gravel Road

Vehicle involved: 2011 Volkswagen Jetta

Driver: 16 year old juvenile

Columbia, Mo

Minor Injuries

Pedestrian: 9 year old juvenile

Kirksville, MO

Sustained fatal injuries

Investigation: The crash occurred as the driver of the Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south in the 3300 block of Oakland Gravel Road, just north of Edris Drive.  Three pedestrians including a nine year old juvenile were walking across Oakland Gravel Road from the west side of the street to the east side of the street.  The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta struck the nine year old juvenile with the front of the vehicle.  The nine year old juvenile was transported to a local hospital and was later pronounced deceased.  The driver of the Volkswagen Jetta suffered minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital via private vehicle.

Alcohol/Drug impairment is not believed to be a factor and the cause of the crash is unknown at this time. This investigation is currently under investigation.
