COMO Connect announces rides at no charge, family event during Bike, Walk and Wheel Week

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Many Columbia residents will participate in Bike, Walk and Wheel Week, held Saturday, May 13- 21 by biking, walking or wheeling to their destinations. The City's public transit system, COMO Connect, in partnership with PedNet Coalition, would like to encourage Columbia residents of all ages and abilities to ride the bus during the week-long event.

COMO Connect will offer rides on all of the bus system's fixed routes and paratransit routes for the entire city at no charge.

"Bike, Walk and Wheel Week is a celebration of active transportation in Columbia, and no healthy and active community would be complete without a strong and vibrant transit system," PedNet Coalition Assistant Director Lawrence Simonson said. "When a person uses our transit system, they are contributing to our culture of active transportation as a pedestrian each time they walk to and from their transit stop."

COMO Connect is also hosting The Learning Loop! on May 20, as part of Bike, Walk and Wheel Week. The event encourages families to learn how to use Columbia's transit system together through a series of stops and activities on a COMO Connect bus.

The event will start at Wabash Station,126 N. 10th St., on Saturday, May 20. Check-in begins at 10:30 a.m. and the bus will leave for its first stop at 11 a.m. During the event, families will travel to two local parks and the Daniel Boone Regional Library, where they will learn about transit safety, bike trail information and the library's summer reading program. The bus will return to Wabash station at 1 p.m.
