Columbia Parks and Recreation is organizing the local MLB Pitch, Hit & Run competition on April 29.
The event will be held at the Red Field at Cosmo Park's Rainbow Softball Center, 1507 Business Loop 70 West. Registration and warm-ups will begin at 9:30 a.m. with the competition starting at 10 a.m.
Pitch, Hit & Run is MLB's official skills competition for boys and girls ages 7-14. Age is determined as of July 17, 2017.
Participants compete in skills including pitching for accuracy at a target, hitting for distance and accuracy from a tee, and running bases for time. Girls participate in the same skills, but they use a softball.
Winners at the local level will advance to the sectional competition. Sectional winners may be selected to participate in the team championships at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. The final level of competition concludes at the 2017 MLB All-Star Game in Miami this summer.
Registration forms are available at Columbia Parks and Recreation, 1 South Seventh St., Armory Sports Center, 701 E. Ash St. or online at CoMo.gov. Pre-registration is preferred by April 27, but walk-ups are welcome. Copy of birth certificate or baptismal record is required.
Call Parks and Recreation at 573-874-7460 for more information.
