The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced on Friday, Feb. 24, that Emery Sapp & Sons is scheduled to start construction on Discovery Drive South the week of Feb. 27, 2017, weather permitting. The construction is part of the Discovery Drive and Sanitary Sewer Extension project and is estimated to be completed mid to late summer.
The Discovery Drive project includes both the extension of the roadway and the sanitary sewer to the south of the existing intersection of Discovery Drive with Discovery Parkway. The project is being completed jointly with the University of Missouri.
"The project has a little work at the intersection of Discovery Drive and Discovery Parkway, so motorist are urged to use caution in this area," said Engineering Superintendent David Fennewald. "We don't anticipate a significant impact on traffic but we will monitor the project closely."
The project includes a sanitary sewer extension and telecommunications extension in preparation for the continued development of Discovery Park.
Engineering Surveys and Services is the design engineer for the project. The estimated investment cost is $1.2 million paid for through an EDA Grant via the University of Missouri and the 2005 Capital Improvement Sales Tax.
