Columbia Public Works crews are scheduled to begin snow/ice operations at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Public Works Street Division crews are scheduled to begin snow/ice operations at 7 a.m. tomorrow morning. The National Weather Service has issued an Ice Storm Warning in effect from 9 a.m. Friday to Noon Sunday. Warmer temperatures are currently expected late Sunday or Monday.

Freezing rain and ice is forecast. All residents are advised to stay home if at all possible. Drivers who must leave their homes are cautioned to plan plenty of extra time as there may be extended periods of slickness and possible traffic delays. Stay tuned to your local weather and road reports.

A full crew of Street Division vehicles will be fighting the event, which may continue for an extended duration throughout the weekend, especially if heavy ice or winds cause multiple tree failures. Otherwise, crews will focus on priority routes. All residents are encouraged to voluntarily move their vehicles off of all roadways as much as that is possible. Vehicles abandoned in roadways will be towed at the owner's expense.

Public Works crews thank you for your assistance, prudence and support during this potentially serious event if and when it occurs.
