Columbia Police officers were dispatched to the area of Worley Street and Oak Street at 1:54 a.m. today in reference to shots heard. While en-route Boone County Joint Communications advised officers that a gunshot wound victim had been located outside of the police department.
Officers responded to the department and located a vehicle with multiple bullet holes in the passenger side. There were four occupants inside the vehicle; the female driver of the vehicle was identified as the gunshot wound victim. Officers observed a minor laceration to her shin as a result of gunfire. The victim denied transport to the hospital for her injury.
The investigation revealed the victims' vehicle had been traveling south on Garth Avenue towards Sexton Road when multiple shots struck the vehicle. An occupant of the vehicle reported seeing a male suspect holding a handgun just north of the intersection of Garth Avenue and Sexton Road before the shooting began. Officer located one shell casing north of a residence in the 100 block of Sexton Road. The investigation is on-going.
