The City of Columbia Public Works Department announced on Monday that it plans to apply a sealant to a section of the alley behind City Hall on Sept. 28. The work is scheduled to begin after 5 p.m.
Traffic in the alley will be limited to one lane during the treatment. Vehicles may enter the alley from Eighth Street to access the drive-through window of Columbia Utilities and then exit on to Seventh Street. The payment drop box as well as some of the meters in the alley will be temporarily blocked.
The sealant is designed to stop and prevent future damage to the concrete in the alley, which has a high volume of traffic.
Motorized, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users should exercise caution in the area.
