The Public Works Department announced on Tuesday a planned closure on the north end of Eighth Street at Walnut to move a fire hydrant currently located at Eighth and Walnut. Southbound access to Eighth Street from Walnut is scheduled to close on Thursday, July 21, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. A trench will need to be cut across Eighth Street, making the Eighth and Walnut Plaza Garage, City Hall alley and Landmark Bank parking lot accessible only from Broadway and northbound Eighth Street. (See attached map for details.) Once the hydrant is relocated the current one way traffic on Eighth will be restored. Motorists, pedestrians and nonmotorized transportation users are urged to use extreme caution and use alternate routes.
