City of Columbia's 4th of July Fire in the Sky Celebration

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Columbia's 64th annual 4th of July celebration is coming up. Entertainment and activities begin at 6:30 p.m. at Flat Branch Park and Peace Park in The District in downtown Columbia. A fireworks display will begin at 9:15 p.m. and will be shot from the top of the Sixth and Cherry parking garage.  The fireworks display will be choreographed to music and simulcast on BXR radio 102.3.

The bands Ironweed Bluegrass Band and the Kay Brothers will perform on the Flat Branch Park stage. Children's activities will also be located at the park. Food trucks and vendors located near Flat Branch will include Eagle Scoop Ice Cream, Kona Ice, Smokin' Chicks BBQ, The Big Cheeze and JW Kettlecorn.

The bands Brad Cunningham Band and the Kansas City Street Band will perform on the Peace Park stage. Food trucks and vendors located near Peace Park will include Lilly's Cantina, Jamaican Jerk Hut, Big Daddy's BBQ, Ozark Mountain Biscuit Co and Playing with Fire Pizza.

Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. Please do not bring fireworks, alcohol or grills to the event or parking garages. Parking will be free downtown and on the MU campus.

Some streets in the downtown area will be closed in the hours leading up to the event. Visit www.CoMo.gov (search 4th of July) for information about street closures, parking availability, transit schedule, entertainment schedule and other event details. 

Volunteers are still needed for the event. To volunteer, call the City's Office of Volunteer Services Office at 573-874-7499.
