Flat Branch Sewer Relief Project - Affects along the MKT Trail

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

Tree removal work for the Flat Branch Relief Sewer Project will begin on Monday, Jan. 25 at 7 a.m. and is scheduled to conclude on Friday, Feb. 12 at 7 p.m., weather permitting. MKT Trail users should be aware that this work will result in delays, detours and closures of the MKT Trail.

A portion of the MKT Trail will be closed between Elm and Stewart Road beginning on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 7 a.m. until Saturday, Jan. 30 at 12 p.m.

Between Jan. 25 and Feb. 12, work along the MKT Trail between Bridge 3 and Providence Road will cause temporary delays to trail users in the form of short trail closures, generally lasting less than 15 minutes.

During the construction work, signs will be posted along the affected areas of the trail, between Stadium and Elm near mile markers 7.5 and 8.5. Trail users are encouraged to be patient and alert when traveling through construction areas.

The preliminary work on the Flat Branch Sewer Relief Project will consist of  brush clearing and selected tree removal. On Mar. 26, 2015, Columbia Utilities Sanitary Sewer Division conducted an interested parties meeting, including attendance by City Council members, to tour the work areas and understand the general number of trees affected.

Actual construction work on the sewer improvement project is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2016. Currently, the exact dates are unknown. Additional information will be provided when construction is scheduled to begin.

Columbia Parks and Recreation will post updates on Facebook and Twitter @CoMoParksandRec, as well as alerts on the department's free trails mobile application CoMoTrails, which is available on iTunes and Google Play. When trail closings occur, detour routes will be posted on the City's website and mobile app.
