On 1/7/16 at 12:07 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of Sidewinder Drive in reference to a burglary in progress. The suspect, later identified as David Lamont Reed, 48, of Boone County, entered the residence and took several items from the home before fleeing the residence and entering a nearby vehicle. During investigation officers obtained the vehicle information and tracked the vehicle back to a residence in the 5700 block of Rocky Fork Drive.
The Columbia Police SWAT team was asked to assist with a search warrant at 5723 Rocky Fork Drive due to information that Reed is known to be armed and dangerous. The search warrant was served at approximately 5:21 p.m. During the course of searching the residence, detectives located the property taken from the burglary on Sidewinder Drive, as well as electronics that were reported stolen after a burglary that occurred between 12/18/15 and 12/21/15 at 900 Rain Forest Parkway, Boone Hospital Center. The search further revealed one firearm inside the suspect vehicle and three more inside the residence.
Reed appeared to have been hiding inside the attic of the residence and proceeded to enter the neighbor's garage from the attic where he was apprehended by detectives. Two of the three firearms located inside the residence were in the attic. Reed is a convicted felon. Reed was arrested at 7:12 p.m. for the following:
- Four (4) counts of Unlawful for Certain Persons to Possess a Concealable Firearm with a total bond of $18,000.00.
- Burglary in the Second Degree with a bond of $4,500.00.
