CORRECTED RELEASE:
Columbia Public Works Street Division has set up lane restrictions which narrowed the northbound lane of Martinshire Dr near Chapel Hill Rd due to the collapse of a retaining wall. The sidewalk is also closed until further notice.
Early this afternoon, a privately owned retaining wall and fence collapsed onto the sidewalk along Martinshire Dr near Chapel Hill Rd. Building and Site Development, a division of Community Development, has been in contact with the property owner and an engineering firm is on site.
Out of caution, the lane narrowing for northbound Martinshire Dr was initiated in the event of further collapse of the hillside. Additional restrictions may be possible.
Motorist and non-motorized transportation users should use caution in the area and find alternate routes when available.
