THE COLUMBIA POLICE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATES A SUSPICIOUS DEVICE
On 10/22/15, officers received information earlier in the afternoon that a male subject possibly had an explosive device in his vehicle. The Columbia Police Department Street Crimes Unit did surveillance on the male subject's residence. After approximately 20 minutes of surveillance, a male and female subject left the residence and got into a vehicle that allegedly had the explosive device.
CPD Street Crimes Detectives performed a traffic stop at 5:46 P.M. on the white four door passenger vehicle on Stadium Boulevard between Carrie Frankie Drive and West Boulevard. The male and female were detained and taken to the Columbia Police Department. The Mid-Missouri Bomb Squad was called to the scene and examined the device to see if it was an explosive.
The Columbia Police Department closed Stadium Boulevard from Forum Boulevard to Providence Road as well as West Boulevard from Stadium to Sunset Drive.
The Mid-Missouri Bomb Squad found an improvised incendiary device which they rendered safe. All roads were open by 10:05 P.M.
The agencies assisting the Columbia Police Department on scene were: Columbia Fire Department, Boone County Sheriff's Department, Missouri State Highway Patrol, University of Missouri Police Department and Missouri Department of Transportation.
There have been no arrests made and the investigation is ongoing.
