Effective today, the speed limit on North Providence Rd between Vandiver Dr and Blue Ridge Rd has been changed to 45 mph.
New speed limit signs have been posted to reflect the change.
City of Columbia Public Works Traffic Engineers completed a traffic study of this section of the corridor and noted traffic speeds were, on average 48.27 mph. Due to limited access points, no residential driveways, and adequate pedestrian facilities on this segment of North Providence Rd, staff recommended the speed limit be raised to 45 mph in accordance with council approved policy resolution, PR182-09.
On October 5, the Columbia City Council passed bill 245-15 authorizing the speed limit change.
