Cruise the Creeks Bicycle Ride Series Starts Sunday

(COLUMBIA, MO) -

GetAbout Columbia, in partnership with the Public Works Stormwater Utility Education Program, will host a free Cruise the Creeks Bicycle Ride Series at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 30. The ride will start at Flat Branch Park, 1400 Locust St.

The first of three guided rides will begin with the theme "Bikes and Trees; Bringing Green Interests Together." Cyclists will enjoy a 9-mile educational ride along the MKT and Hinkson Creek Trails.  Dan Schneiderjohn, local cycling and tree enthusiast will lead the ride and provide helpful tips on how to identify native trees along with their unique ecological and medicinal benefits.  GetAbout Columbia staff will provide pre-ride and trailside assistance for minor bike repair needs.  Cyclists are asked to wear a helmet and to please bring a water bottle.

Future rides in the Cruise the Creeks series include: "Bikes and Birds" on Saturday, September 19, "Do you Know Your Shed?" on Saturday, October 10, and "Bikes and Trees; Capturing the Perfect Fall Photo" on Saturday, October 24.  Ride start locations and times vary for each session.  For additional information or to register, call the Columbia Parks and Recreation Department at 874-7460.   Drop-in participants are welcome.  Call the Parks and Recreation Hotline at 874-7663 ext. 4 for weather related cancellations.
